Voters called upon to wear white on election day

The NGO Iluminemos México “Light up Mexico” is calling on voters to dress completely in white on election day to protest the government’s failure to stop kidnapping. The head of the organization, Elías Kuri, said the new protest was inspired by the kidnapping and murder of 16-year old Marco Antonio Equihua Peralta in Mexico City. “With the death of Antonio the first thing that comes to mind is ‘Why do we have to put up with this; why do we have to treat this as an everyday occurrence?’ Kuri said that the government had made “zero or negligible” progress on implementing 53% of the action items in the National Accord for Security.
